TURKEY DAY TOURNAMENT

The finals for the 1st Annual Turkey Day Classic hosted by Woburn Youth Hockey were held on Sunday at the O'Brien Arena in Woburn. The Mite A team took third with a 5-2 win over Winthrop Sunday morning. Corey Webber scored a goal each period. The first goal, assisted by Steve Maxim came with :05 seconds left in the first. His second came late in the second, with assists from William O'Neil and Jesse Caisse. Webber completed the hat trick with an unassisted goal in the third period. Caisse had an unassisted goal in the second. O'Neil contributed in the third with the assist from Jack Silk.

The Mite B team faced Burlington in a rematch in the championship game, Sunday evening. At the end of the first period, Burlington had taken the lead 1-0. In the second, Brian Smith took it end to end to tie it up. Three minutes later, John Raikos, assisted by Ryan Dunn gave the Hawks a 2-1 lead. Spencer Berube, with an assist from Scott Hillson added to the lead. Despite a strong effort by the team, the Burlington squad came back strong in the third and scored four unanswered goals to win, 5-3.




The Mite B team faced off against Greater Gardner Friday afternoon and took the win (6-2). Steven Hillson started the scoring :45 seconds into the first period with the assist going to Spencer Berube. Two minutes later, teammate Brian Smith added an unassisted goal; his first of two. Four minutes into the second period, John Raikos netted the first of three goals. Goal two came at 8:18 of the second, with assists from Kyle Maxim and Reed Bourgeois, and the hat trick was completed at 3:29 of the third, with an assist from Corey Vaillancourt.

Game two was against Burlington Saturday morning. Goals by Raikos and Hillson put the Hawks up by one to end the first period. Burlington put in an early goal in the second to tie it up. Mid-way through the third, with assistance from Hillson and Berube teammate Smith was able to break the tie. And what proved to be the game winning goal, Smith and Raikos assisted Hillson on his second goal of the game.

The third game of the tournament for the Mite 2 team was against host Woburn. This game, played late Saturday afternoon, was a nail-biter to the finish! After two scoreless periods, Smith netted the only goal of the game, with assists going to Hillson and Berube. Earning the shut-out with a strong game in net was Carl Marzolini. Mite 2 will play in the championship game Sunday, at 5:40pm.




The Mite A team skated to a 6-5 victory over host Woburn in game one Friday morning. Down by two goals early in the first period, the Hawks battled back to tie it and eventually win, led by five goals from Corey Webber and one from Will O'Neill , who also contributed with three assists. Also assisting in the goal scoring were Ryan McKennedy, Ryan Freker, Steve Maxim and Ricky Beckwith.

Game two was an early Saturday morning face-off. O'Neil and Jack Silk assisted on the first of two goals by Webber. The assist on the second goal went to Ryan Freker. Also scoring unassisted goals were O'Neil and Nick Hayward. Despite a strong effort, the Hawks fell to Stoneham 8-4.

Game three later that afternoon found the Mite 2 team facing off against Winthrop. Teammates Eric Fisher, Silk, and O'Neil assisted Webber on his two goals. Webber returned the favor with an assist, along with Fisher, on O'Neil's goal. And Tim Poitras assisted Hayward giving the Hawks a 4-3 victory over Winthrop.
Mite 1 will play their final match on Sunday at 10:40am.
