SQUIRTS ARE CHAMPIONS!
  February 25, 2006

Seven different players found the back of the net during the Masco Classic Tournament held this week. Corey Vaillancourt was solid between the pipes, posting a shutout and allowing opponents a stingy 4 goals in the first three games. Drew Dearborn led the scoring with three goals, while Kyle Gauthier chipped in with a goal and three assists. Other teammates adding to the scoreboard were Steve Hillson , Nathan Shake , and Kameron Conway with a goal apiece. Anthony Bazzinotti and Jesse Caisse each tallied a goal and an assist, while Tim O'Brien contributed with an assist.
With a record of 2-1, the Squirts advanced to the Championship Game on Friday to face off against host Masco. The Hawks' only loss in the tournament was to this same Masco team. Undaunted, the Hawks took an early lead on a goal by Dearborn in the opening minute of the game. Assisting on the goal were Gauthier and Caisse. The Hawks skated hard, and held Masco scoreless in the first period. The second period was almost an instant replay of the first, with Dearborn again finding the back of the net in the opening minute. Gauthier added an insurance goal at the end of the second to give the Hawks a commanding 3-0 lead going into the third period. With less than 2 minutes to play, Masco finally managed to push one past Vaillancourt, who had been nothing less than a stone wall for the entire tournament! When the final buzzer sounded, the scoreboard read "Hawks 3 Masco 1" and Greater Lowell took home the first place trophy.
