Greater Lowell Youth Skating Association wants to welcome back all returning Hawks Players and new players and families to the 2014-15 hockey season! Our season kicks off with practices starting the week of 9/1 and games, that first weekend. A preliminary practice and game schedule will be available by 8/30.
If your child participated in Spring Tryouts, they should have been notified in April with information concerning what team he/she has been placed on and who the coach is. The executive board of directors reviewed all of this information from tryouts and put together the teams. A few words on team placement: As a parent of a Hawks player for the past 5 years, I know that the placement process for any youth team can be stressful. Please realize that we are trying to place the kids at an appropriate level that will be both competitive and fun for all involved.
This being said, placements are not final. Over the course of a summer, a lot can change for kids this age. We use the parity round games (the first six games of the season) to continue to evaluate all players. In a number of cases, we’ve purposely left a few slots open on certain teams to make room for players after parity. All players will be evaluated during this period to allow player movement
New for 2014-2015 Season:
Jerseys with Names! In response to the number of inquiries we received last season about names on the Jerseys, the Board of Directors has voted to begin phasing out the current Hawks Jerseys. Parents will be given the option to have their names added to the jerseys for a cost of approximately $15. This is not required, however if you do wish to have your child’s name added to the jerseys, we would request cash/check payment at the beginning of the season so we can have the names added. At the end of this season, players will be given their jerseys to keep.
New Logo! Over the summer, you should have received an email concerning a new Hawks logo. We received numerous new logo submissions and the board has formed a committee to finalize this choice as well as the design for next season’s jerseys. If you would like to be part of this committee, please contact Doug Niles (
Payment Schedules! Over the summer all registered families received an email about the implementation of a payment schedule for the 2014-15 season dues. Your first payment was due on June 1st. If you did not make this payment please do so immediately. Your second payment will be due on 9/1. We ask for your cooperation in adhering to this schedule.
Upcoming Hawks Events
Equipment Swap Day! On Saturday 8/23 from 9am – 1pm, we will be holding an equipment swap day at the Janas Rink. Please stop by with your outgrown equipment and swap for something that may fit your child! Or just bring your youth hockey equipment that you no longer need and consider donating!
1st Annual GLYSA Golf Tournament! On 10/9, GLYSA will be hosting its first annual golf tournament at the Four Oaks Golf Course in Dracut. We still have openings for Foursomes and of course, we are always looking for hole sponsors! Please contact Ann Marie DuRoss for more information (
I’m very much looking forward to the upcoming season and serving my second year as president of GLYSA. This is a wonderful volunteer association with tremendous donations of time and energy from board members, coaches and parent volunteers. We will ask for volunteers for fundraisers, committees and team managers to help us build a better hockey program.
Please feel free to email or call me or Christine MacPherson directly at any point during the season with any questions and/or feedback.
If you elect to make your 2014-15 payments online, below are the instructions to do so. Otherwise, please mail a check, made payable to GLYSA, to:
PO Box 1536
Lowell, MA 01852
Log into your account by clicking on TEAM, followed by edit my account. From here, it will ask for your e-mail and password. (If you don't know or forgot your password, click the login button and a new one will be e-mailed to you). Once logged in, you will see your account balance(s).
If making payments using a debit card, GLYSA would appreciate your help in reducing transaction fees by having you use "Bank Transfer" instead of visa or master card. GLYSA gets charged a percentage fee for every credit card payment made. We would like to avoid having to charge a "convenience fee" as other organizations do, so we ask that you consider using your checking account as opposed to your debit card for payments.
To do this, after choosing the amount you wish you pay, please select "bank transfer". From here you will be prompted to create a Dwolla account (our credit card payment processing website). You will be asked to provide your checking account routing number and account number. Dwolla will verify your account and you will be able to make payments directly from your checking account.
GLYSA shares your concerns about security when entering this information onto a website. Dwolla assures us that your information is secure and will never be shared. Unlike paper checks or credit card transactions, your financial information is not transmitted when making payments, limiting the threat of possible identity theft.
