H1N1 Virus information from the Valley League.

Due to the increasing number of cases of H1N1 virus being reported in school-aged children by various federal and state health agencies, the Valley Hockey League would like to encourage its membership to adopt the following recommended steps in order to help minimize the spread of the H1N1 virus :

- Players should refrain from participating in activities if they have symptoms of influenza. Symptoms include a fever of 100 degrees Fahrenheit or greater, with cough and/or a sore throat. Other symptoms of the flu include runny nose, headache, body aches, vomiting and diarrhea (in addition to fever and cough or sore throat)

- If a player has experienced any of these symptoms, they should not participate in activities for at least 24 hours after his/her fever has been reduced without the aid of fever-reducing drugs such as Tylenol or Motrin. Usually this means staying home for five to seven days.

- To avoid spreading the virus, it is very important that all players and coaches clean their hands frequently, cover coughs and sneezes with a sleeve or tissue and not share personal items (e.g., water bottles, towels, clothing, bar soap, drinks or any other personal items).

- Teams should sanitize water bottles or – better yet – encourage players to bring their own personal bottles.

- Do not allow players to spit in locker rooms or on player bench areas. Replace the game-end tradition of hand shakes with a glove-on "pound" or "bump"

GLYSA would like to extend a special Thank You to Gary Torrisi of Monster Masks and Gary Torrisi Studios for his new design of the hawks logo. In addition to painting masks for 30 years, Gary has clients in the NHL, AHL and College.Check out his site by clicking on his link above and see more of his impressive work.

We would also like to thank GLYSA Board member Melissa Correia for taking the lead in the redesign of the logo and seeing it through to completion.
